“The government supports a copyright system which encourages creativity and investment in the creative industries and promotes economic growth. The IPO Strategy 2018 to 2021 reflects this. Sometimes there is tension between these objectives, such as when businesses face obstacles to their use of copyrighted works. The government aims to find balanced outcomes which benefit owners and users of copyright works alike.

The government also wants to make the UK a global centre for AI and data-driven innovation. Its mission is to increase the uptake of AI for the benefit of everyone in the UK. This includes ensuring AI technology works for the people and making sure the UK has the best environment for developing and using AI.“

Another important aspect to note is:

“Each work used by an AI may be protected by copyright. This means that the copyright owner’s permission is needed to use the work unless a copyright exception applies. This permission may be granted using a licence, which will set out who can use the work, how and why.“

Copyright is already a very complicated and delicate issue and the advancement of AI in regard to the protection of copyright is only going to exasperate this.
