Rapper Kanye West is on the receiving end of a legal claim over the use of a sample in his song, Flower.
Part of the album Donda 2, Flowers allegedly included samples from Marshall Jefferson’s 1986 hit Move Your Body.
The claim states that the song is sampled at least 22 times in West’s song, and all samples were made without authorisation.
The claim also stated that pre-action discussions took place with Kanye’s team in which they admitted the samples were used without a licence in place.
Marshall Jefferson is a House musician from Chicago who is still performing, including at festivals as he performed at Glastonbury this year.
The copyright claim has been filed in the US, so it will be interesting to see how it develops. West and his team are yet to comment, therefore it may be a matter that is resolved behind closed doors.
Keep your eyes peeled for further updates as they come in.
