The UK Intellectual Property Office has taken another step forward in the digital world and revolutionised the intellectual property renewal system.
The new digital renewals services will reduce the time it takes to renew multiple IP rights from 5 days to 5 minutes.
Moving towards a completely integrated system, the One IPO service will be open to all customers and is aimed to provide a more streamlined and slick service, allowing up to 1500 IP rights to be renewed at the same time. These can be a mixture, of patents, designs and trade marks.
For the first time, this will also allow customers to renewal a registered design online.
With an 96% satisfaction rate in its trial, the feedback so far has been great and the team at Lawdit are happy to see its implementation and look forward to benefitting from the time saving features.
Peter Slater, Deputy Director of IPO’s Technical Change team said:
“Our new renewals service has proved that we are more than capable of delivering on our promises of radically improved digital services and we’ll continue this journey with the needs of our customers at the core.
“The journey toward introducing a new service isn’t always going to be seamless, particularly at the very earliest stages. Therefore, the value of testing new services with a range of customers with different needs could not be clearer. This approach has helped us design a system that met the needs of all our customers, whether they file one renewal or 1,000.
“The service has had an overwhelmingly positive reception, but there’s always room for improvement, so we will continue to review and improve the service going forward.”
