The UK intellectual Property Office have today released information regarding the successes of the UK attachés stationed across the globe.  Â
An attaché is a person who represents the UK in other countries and works with that country to protect and develop IP for the UKÂs benefit.
At present, the UK has attachés in China, Brazil, South East Asia and India. As a collective, they have worked with over 14,000 UK businesses that operate out of these countries. They ensure that these companies are using IP to their advantage as well as ensuring the IP has the clarity and respect it deserves in a number of differing economies.
In 2015, these attachés have advised a number of businesses in relation to IP which is worth approximately £47 million.
They also hold a large amount of one-to-one meetings which give a huge benefit to the company.
This phenomenal amount of work has a huge impact across the globe not only to the UK but to the general IP regimes in the countries in which they operate.
Baroness Neville-Rolfe, the UK Minister for IP has congratulated them on their efforts and has said ÂOur IP attachés represent great value for money. They support British businesses operating overseas and have a major impact on the improvement of the global IP systemÂ
As a relatively unknown weapon in the UK IPOÂs armoury, it is clear the big impact the UK attachés have behind the scenes.
