UK confirms part in Hague International Design System

While the UK has been accustomed to this system for some time under the EU front, only this week has the UK taken the final steps to joining the Design system.

Unlike the International trade mark system also governed by the World Intellectual Property Organisation, the UK did not join in their own right as well as their automatic membership through the EU.

With Brexit approaching, it was about time the UK government secured international design options for UK businesses.

The Hague International Design System allows a business to protect their designs in a number of countries through one straightforward application.

The UK makes the membership of the Hague system to 68 countries which includes the US and Japan who joined in 2015.

The significance of this move will not be apparent until Brexit has a firm grip but it is reassuring to all in the IP world that the government is taking positive steps which will aid our businesses in the long term future.

If you would like more information on how to protect your designs, in the UK, EU or internationally, please do not hesitate to get in touch with our design team today.
