The ICO has imposed monetary penalties totalling £440,000 on Christopher Niebel and Gary McNeish and their company Tetrus. I understand that this is the first time that the ICO has used its power to issue a monetary penalty for a serious breach of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (SI 2426/2003) (PECR).
Tetrus in short spammed for fun, millions of texts were sent over three years, seeking no consent and without identifying the sender, a breach of the law.
Well done ICO!
