The end to encryption ?

Mr Cameron was quoted as saying in the Independent: “In our country, do we want to allow a means of communication between people which…we cannot read?”

He indicated that he wishes to stop the use of communications methods that cannot be read by the security services even with a warrant. If this were the case then it would be end to WhatsApp and Snapchat which encrypts their data. You could not buy anything from Amazon as all transactions are encrypted. So what is the PM playing at?

Its probably more to do with saying the right thing and appearing to be tough but history has taught us that reacting to a tragedy with legislation does not work ( ie dangerous dogs etc)- surely Prime Minister the current legslation is perfectly adequate?
