As previously reported on by Lawdit, pop superstar Taylor Swift has come under fire from a copyright claim relating to one of her biggest hits.
‘Shake it Off’ took the world by storm when it was released in 2014 and became a massive hit.
Girl group 3LW have claimed that some lyrics in Swift’s song infringes the copyright protection of their 2001 tune Playas Gon’ Play. These lyrics are the phrases “players gonna play” and “haters gonna hate”.
Taylor Swift has attempted to have the US legal claim dismissed on the basis that it has no merit. While a judge ruled in her favour in an original ruling, on appeal this was overturned and the matter will now have to be put forward in front of a jury for a trial to determined whether copyright infringement took place.
Keep your eyes on the reading room to find out when the trial has been fixed for and the outcome.
