Paul Weller and the right to privacy

Human Rights and defamation and Intellectual Property Rights were raised in an appeal by Associated Newspapers Ltd against its misuse of private information and issues over privacy and photographs.

The Court of Appeal heard arguments that Justice Dingemans’ 2014 ruling in Weller v Associated Newspapers Ltd created what was, in effect, an “image right” for the first tim. Mr Weller was awarded £10,000 privacy damages for the publication of unpixellated pictures of his children.
