Parkinson – Defamation Case Settles

It has been reported this week that Sir Michael Parkinson has agreed to settle in the dispute with Associated Newspapers.

Sir Michael Parkinson issued a claim for defamation against the owners of the Daily Mail after it printed comments regarding his auto biography. The comments suggested that Michael Parkinson was ‘grossly insensitive’ towards his uncle and that he had falsely stated that he had a harmonious domestic life.

However Associated Newspapers agreed that the allegations were false and issued an apology. It also agreed to pay £25,000 plus legal costs.

It is believed that the monies will be given to charity.
