New UK IP Minister confirmed

It has been confirmed by the Government that Amanda Solloway is the new Minister for Intellectual Property in the UK.

Solloway was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Science, research and innovation) at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy on 14 February 2020.

As part of this role, her responsibilities are not just in relation to IP but also:

  • science and research
  • innovation
  • space
  • agri-tech
  • technology

The role of Minister of intellectual property has been held under different titles by many different people, including Jo Johnson. Jo Johnson is the brother of Boris Johnson and has held the position twice, once in 2015 and again in 2019.

With Brexit in full swing and the IP world on the edge of their seats to see how much of an impact it will have, it will be interesting to see how the new minister plays her role.
