Shamnad Basheer was a professor famous for his career and research of IP law and social justice, however an unfortunate event, which occurred less than three months ago, cut his career short at the age of 43. The Professor had attracted his interest to assessing how the pharmaceutical industry operates, more specifically how IP intertwines with this industry and the effect this had on the availability of pharmaceutical drugs.
A fellowship was established in his name, in collaboration with Texas A&M University School of Law, a short while after his passing. Michael Palmedo has just been announced as being the honourable recipient of the fellowship.
Palmedo is an assistant director of Interdisciplinary Research, at the American University Washington College of Law. He will have the task of working with professors of Texas A&M University to produce a white paper which will examine the special 301 submission of pharmaceutical research.
