2018 certainly saw some music copyright action and it seems that 2019 is not going to be any different.
Known for the widely discussed Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke copyright clash, Marvin GayeÂs songs have been at the centre of the action.
Ed Sheeran is the latest to be sued this time by the estate of Ed Townsend who claim his hit ÂThinking out loud copies GayeÂs hit ÂLetÂs Get in OnÂ, Townsend being the co-writer of the song.
Sheeran did make an attempt to dismiss the claim this week but this failed and the judge said it is to be heard by a jury.
In the judgment, the Judge did highlight that there were Âsubstantial similarities between the two songs.
This is one claim, the second being made by Structured Asset Sales, who own a third of Ed TownsendÂs estate, the second claim again over the same song.
The Blurred Lines case is still ongoing a number of years on, it will certainly be interesting to see if this Ed Sheeran case carries on down the same path.
