This year has been a very busy one for Lil Nas X, the US rapper, who has already been subject to one copyright claim this year, has been landed back in it with another one, but this time he is not on his own.
Two US music producers have filed a copyright claim again Lil Nas X and fellow rapper Cardi B over their song ‘Rodeo’.
The claim states that the song rips off the original content created by Don Lee and Glen DeMeritt.
Lee and DeMeritt has stated that their song “gwenXdonlee4-142” was legally incorporated into “Broad Day” by Atlanta musicians PuertoReefa and Sakrite Duexe.
It is this song which bears a ‘substantial similarity’ to ‘Rodeo’ and therefore infringes their copyright protection.
The claim does highlight some of the similarities, which relates mostly to the use of certain chord progressions and the rhythm for which these chords changes.
It is unclear how much this pair want in terms of damages, but if the previous $25 million claim is anything to go by, this is going to be an expensive year.
