On 15 April 2020, the Law Society published an interactive map showing the number of operational court and tribunal buildings during the coronavirus outbreak.
Following the HM Courts and Tribunals Service and the Ministry of Justice’s announcement in that a number of courts and tribunals in England and Wales will be suspended due to the COVID-19 crisis, the new interactive heat map has been set up by the Law Society in a bid to help solicitors and members of the public identify which courts are operational during the emergency period.
The current position of the court and tribunal buildings is as follows:
– 160 courts open to the public (for essential face-to-face hearings);
– 116 staffed courts for judges and staff (not open to the public); and
– 75 suspended courts (temporarily closed).
