Katy Perry latest star to sell music rights for $225 million

An action taken by many stars looking to benefit from their music rights while they are still alive, Katy Perry has sold a bundle of her music rights to Litmus Music.

The sale, reported to enable Perry to net $225 million, included the rights to some of Perry’s biggest hits including Hot ‘n’ Cold, California Gurls and I Kissed A Girl.

This deal with Perry is reportedly the biggest deal for a single artist this year.

Litmus Music was founded to acquire the rights to well known music, including that of other stars such as Keith Urban.

The rights sold allows Litmus Music to now have control over the use of the music as well as the ability to collect royalties on any future use.

These music rights relate to the copyright protection of the musical work, which Perry holds as the creator of the works.
