It comes as no surprise that musical artist/entrepreneur Kanye West is looking to venture into the beauty industry, following in the footsteps of his wife, Kim Kardashian-West, and sister-in-law, Kylie Jenner, whom both own beauty-business empires. West filed the trademark application on June 2nd, which contains a list of products including “foundation, mascara, lipstick, body glitter and skincare”. The range has also been extended to home products such as candles and aromatherapy pillows.
The latter application is not Kanye’s first when it comes to the beauty industry. Back in 2017, the rapper filed a similar application for DONDA Cosmetics, named after Kanye’s late mother. Unfortunately, the project was never pursued, despite many announcements and West’s goal of “making products which people want and can afford”.
Forbes recently declared the artist a billionaire, with much of his success resulting from his brand, Yeezy. Furthermore, Kanye being married into one of the most influential American families is likely to skyrocket the success of his new business venture. However, the tension of competing in the same industry may lead to a family feud, if it surpasses Jenner’s billion-dollar ‘Kylie Cosmetics’ company.
In recent news, the Grammy Award winner has also expanded his fashion industry portfolio by signing a ten-year deal with GAP, for the release of a collaboration. The clothing line will carry the name of his Yeezy fashion label and will be available to buy next year.
