Two of Davenport Lyons’ solicitors have been each fined £20,000 and ordered to pay the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority’s costs in the sum of £150,000 for sending intimidating letters to individuals for alleged copyright infringement over Peer 2 Peer networks.
Davenport Lyons would send letters which made allegations of copyright infringement and would demand compensation for the same. The SRA conducted an investigation into the matter and found that issues raised by individuals as to their innocence had been disregarded.
The Solicitors’ Disciplinary Tribunal also decided to ban partners David Gore and Brian Miller from practice for three months.
It is expected that the two partners will appeal the decision.
