Italian fashion designer duo Dolce and Gabbana are in trouble once again. This time they are in hot water over copyright claims.
Their heavily bejewelled, encrusted headphones caused quite a stir at the unveiling during the fashion houseÂs recent autumn/winter 2015 show during Milan Fashion Week. They have been branded as the worldÂs swankiest headphones.
Adriana Duque- A Colombian artist is suing Dolce and Gabbana for copyright infringement. She has claimed that her idea has been stolen. Duque has said that she was shocked when she saw pictures of the Dolce and Gabbana headphones, advertised on the side of a taxi. Duque has claimed that the designs have been copied from a series of photographs that she had taken. The photographs entitled ÂIcons and Icons IIÂ, were a collection of images of children and women wearing headphones encrusted with precious stones.
Duque commented ÂI looked at the designs that were on display on the catwalk and realised that they were uncannily similar to my own from the pictures that I took in 2011Â. She further commented ÂIt is one thing to be inspired by the work of others, but it is another thing to simply copy someone elseÂs work and then not to admit it because this is plagiarism and cannot be acceptedÂ.
The headphones made of leather and covered in Dolce and GabbanaÂs signature jewellery and embellished with pearls, gold chains and Swarovski crystals, were originally designed for the catwalk. However, they have proved such a hit that Dolce and Gabbana have collaborated with trendy Tech brand ÂFrendsÂ, and the headphones will now be sold for an eye watering sum of around £4,600.
Dolce and Gabbana have not commented on the matter.
