35 days and counting….Data Protection news. Google in trouble again over data protection.
It used to be the face of cool ( remember when google was a cool brand?) well the search engine giant is risking the wrath of the information commissioner and its directors may face criminal proceedings unless it deletes any remaining data it “mistakenly collected” while taking pictures for its Street View service as well as all data it collected when sweeping the wi-fi networks.
In the former case no fine was imposed but after an investigation in to the latter google confirmed that it had not deleted the data and had “accidentally” retained the additional discs of data.
The ICO’s head of data said “Today’s enforcement notice strengthens the action already taken by our office, placing a legal requirement on Google to delete the remaining payload data identified last year within the next 35 days and immediately inform the ICO if any further discs are found.”
