After much criticism regarding the blue light aspect of their screens, Apple have included a new feature in the latest iOS update that they claim will have an impact on your 40 winks.
It has been widely documented that the blue light present in the screen of iPhones and iPads can have a detrimental effect on a person’s ability to sleep if they are exposed to it in the evening.
The new feature, named Night Shift, adjusts the colours of the screen to those with redder or orange tones from the normal blue ones. This shift will apparently happen at sunset to allow your eyes and brain to relax allowing you to have a better night sleep.
While this is being documented heavily by Apple as a new release, the software was actually originally developed by a company named f.lux who developed it in terms of an app with its release in November 2015. At the time, Apple made it clear they were unapproving and refused it access on the App store. This was due to its use of restrictor developer tools to work on iOS. F.lux was later asked to remove the app altogether by Apple.
Now, a short time later, Apple have released a similar version themselves.
It is to be determined whether it will have a level of success under their branding or whether their underhand development of it will come back to bite them.
