512 Tequila has accused Kendall Jenner’s 818 Tequila of trade mark infringement

Kendall Jenner’s tequila company, going by the name of ‘818’, has been the target of a trade mark lawsuit from competitor 512 Tequila. The suit details that 512 Tequila is suing the model’s company for false destination of origin and unfair competition, stating that 818 ‘blatantly’ copied the rival tequila company’s brand.

818 Tequila had a very successful launch, selling out its stock across the U.S. just hours after release. Nevertheless, this has been overshadowed by accusations of cultural appropriation. This lawsuit is the latest controversy for the model’s company.

As per the lawsuit, 512 Tequila uses an “immediately recognizable ‘512’ mark in black lettering inside a vertical yellow rectangle”, which was established back in 2015. Similarly, 818’s logo is also made up of black lettering, displayed on either a yellow, pink or white rectangular background, depending on the type of tequila.

A spokesperson for 818 Tequila has since stated that these claims are meritless.
