Protecting your business name

A system of registration exists in the UK which provides for protection of your company name.

All businesses are advised to protect their trading name in order to prevent others from using the same without permission.

Failing to register a trade mark may well lead to your business being hindered from preventing others from using your brand or a brand that is similar.

The most secure way to protect your brand/company name/product name is by registering a trade mark.

The registration process can be straight forward and be over within four months.

The scope of protection is limited by territory.

For example if you registered a trade mark for the UK then the UK is the scope of protection.

There are other systems that allow for the registration of signs in group countries such as for a example in the EU where a Community trade mark will protect you for the 27 Member States.
