Patent Office to Change Design System?

The Patent Office has published details of a potential design system shake-up. Â

The Regulatory Reform (Registered Designs) Order 2006, the Registered Designs Rules 2006 and the Registered Designs (Fees) Rules 2006 is are to come into force on 1 October 2006 and is likely to change the UKs design system in the following ways:

 1) end novelty and individual character examinations for new design applications.

 2) Multiple design applications will be allowed.

 3) Restoration of design made easier after designs have lapsed.

As long as these new changes make the application of a design easier, then all the above rules should be welcomed.
