On the 3rd April the Patent Office launched a new mediation service to help solve disputes over intellectual property rights.
The Patent Office aims to make the service popular by producing various pieces of literature and advising users of its website of the new resolution option.
A team of experienced Patent Office staff will be available at the London and Newport offices to lend their expertise to incidences of dispute, with the aim to settle the matter without the need for litigation.
Even disputes which are currently being considered by hearing offices may be refered to this service.
This service will surely act to increase the importance of intellectual property even further. With parties able to seek help without the need for expensive litigation, it can only strengthen the position of intellectual property rights holders.
