File sharer fined in the US

Another case has reached the US courts and another file-sharer has bitten the dust. Joel Tenenbaum (JT) was found liable and ordered to pay damages. His case has been defended by Harvard Law School and he has become somewhat of a celebrity but JT lost and was ordered to pay $675,000 to four record companies after sharing music online. He had admitted in court that he had downloaded and distributed 30 songs at issue in the case.

The jury ordered him to pay $22,500 for each infringement. JT was relieved “That to me sends a message of ‘We considered your side with some legitimacy,” he said. An appeal was planned.
