Fight over the name Katie Perry/ Katy Perry – Round 1

It has been reported that the legal representatives for EMI have attempted to prevent the use and trade mark registration of the name ‘Katie Perry’ by an Australian fashion designer.

EMI are the representatives of Katy Perry the popular recording artist and it has been reported that a cease and desist letter was issued to the Australian Fashion designer over the use of the name (Katie Perry).

The case is likely to be heard before the Australian trade mark office but it is not likely to be a simple victory for EMI. It is believed that the fashion designer was born ‘Katie Jane Perry’ and thus it may prove difficult to prevent the honest use of this name.
