Equal Pay Claim Pays Off

A decision by the Employment Appeal Tribunal that 300 men were discriminated against because they were paid lower than women in their profession has potentially opened up the floodgates for thousands of similar claims.

The claim was raised against Councils in South Tyneside, Middlesbrough and Hartlepool and involved workers from the care and leisure sectors.

It was held that the men should have been offered the same money as women in their profession and that being paid less amounted to discrimination.

It is believed that many of the other male workers in similar situations will now seek similar claims.
