Callaway Wins Patent Infringement Lawsuit over Acushnet

By Simon Grant
Callaway Golf has won a patent infringement case against Acushnet, the company responsible for the manufacture of the popular Titleist Pro V1 ball.
Callaway filed the suit in the summer in the U.S. District Court in Delaware alleging that the Titleist Pro V1 infringed patents owned by Callaway. Jurors subsequently found in favour of Callaway on four of the five patents.
This result demonstrates the validity of CallawayÂs patents and the incompatibility of the Titleist Pro V1 ball design with these specifications.
Callaway have now indicated that they will continue to seek legal advice in order to obtain an “appropriate remedy, including injunctive relief and damages”.
However, Acushnet believes that it will prevail in the case and is awaiting a decision on a motion for judgment.
We will have to wait for the court to deliver its opinion in the case.
